I want to print a poster sized picture, and have it be relatively good quality. What do the pixel dimensions have to be of the digital image? What sizes can I get away with?
Well I am trying to download a picture off of the internet of someone and then make it into a poster print. I want to know what the pixel resolution of the image has to be.

They don’t measure posters in pixels. They are measured in inches.
The cameras best suited for large prints, are the “full frame” DSLR’s like the Nikon D3x and Canon 1Ds, Mark III (Both ,000) and of course you will need a lens too. How much experience to you have shooting fully adjustable cameras? That, more than the camera, will produce fine poster size images..
Posters are usually 24×36 inches (2×3 feet)

Question by GETHYPHY: How long would it take for me to print out a 24 x 36 poster at a printing place?
I need a poster printed out for a biology class by tomorrow, how long does it usually take for places to print out a poster that is 24 x 36. it doesn’t need to be on poster board at all.

It’s usually – per square foot. Very expensive to do on a one-at-a-time basis. http://www.allin1printing.com can do it but only in bulk. You get better pricing anyways for bulk.
