Question by Blah: How many pixels per inch for a poster in order for it to be clear?
I’m trying to have a custom poster made for me on eBay with an image I choose. For a 30 x 24 inch poster, the person said I have to have an image around 1200 x 1000 pixels (my images are just a tad more than that). Will the poster be blurry?

Begin by doing the very simple math.

Lets use the 1200 pixel and divide it by the thirty inch dimension. The result would yield a 40 pixel per inch resolution. This is VERY low res and, from a moderate distance, the viewer would be able to easily see individual pixels.

A reasonalble quality print would have to start at about 150 pixels per inch. That means an image of 4500 by 3600 pixels. I high quality print should be around 300 ppi. That would be an image of 9000 by 7200 pixels. For high quality, your image should be larger by a factor of around eight times. And remember, you can’t just take your 1200 by 1000 pixel image into your computer and just bump up the res. All that will do is just make bigger pixel blocks. You actually need to START with the high resolution image.

As to how “blurry,” or pixelated the poster would appear at your 30 inch by 24 inch dimensions, it would depend on how close a viewer is to the image. The farther away the viewer stands, the less apparent each pixel will appear.

I am doing a wedding poster for someone who wants it in a classical Disney style, with their portraits in it. It may take anywhere from 10 hours to weeks. Have you done anything like this, and what should I charge for it? (by the hour, or as a whole?)
Preferably answers from professional or working artists, please; I don’t think 100 euros would quite cover it (I’m using $ also).
This person has seen my portfolio online already, and they want me to do this poster for them. It will be pretty detailed.

I want to make my own custom poster using my computer and printer (a poster, which would actually be a bunch of single regular sized sheets that i would put up on the wall). Do i need special software? How can i do this? I want to make a collage poster with 30 different pics.
